Supportive Roommate

Job Summary

A Supportive Roommate agrees to provide supervision, support and/or personal care to an elderly person or an individual with disabilities by living in the home of the individual served. This is a salaried position, which includes room and board.

Qualification

Has good judgment and problem-solving ability when working with clients, is caring and compassionate, and demonstrates attention to detail. Must be able to follow written plans, read and comprehend instructions, and write correspondence clearly and effectively.

Use of an automobile with adequate liability insurance ($100,000/$300,000).

Neat appearance, dependable, responsible, and good personal hygiene.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one support (daily/as needed) to an individual who may require minimal to maximum assistance with daily tasks.

  • Provide transportation and accompany individuals to appointments

  • Provide general guidance and mentoring

  • Ensure the safety of individuals served at all times

  • Upkeep of home with assistance of the individual

  • Meal preparation and shopping

  • Provide weekly feedback on individual’s development to Supervisor

  • Coordinate social, recreational, and programmatic activities for the individual served based on support plans

Organizational Relationship

The Direct Support Professional reports directly to the Community Living Coordinator.

Functional Abilities

  • Ability to stand and walk on a frequent basis

  • Ability to move and/or lift up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to assist in client transfers

  • Has reliable transportation

  • Able to read, write and speak in a manner understood by most persons
